The latest Hong Kong sale by auctioneer Christie’s ended on 12 July with sales totaling HK$42,076,250, including a Jeroboam of DRC Romanée-Conti 1990, which sold for HK$1.25 million.
The auctioneer’s ‘Finest and Rarest Wines and Spirits’ sale was held in its Hong Kong saleroom. It attracted bidders from 10 countries across three continents via all sale channels, with 28% of buyers from Christie’s Live, the online live-bidding platform of the company.

The sale achieved good figures, with 99.3% sold by lot and 99.6% sold by value.

Large formats wines shone, such star of the show DRC Romanée-Conti 1990, which realised for HK$1,250,000 for a Jeroboam. Another Jeroboam of DRC La Tâche 1995 sold for over its top estimate at HK$275,000.

Almost all Scottish and Japanese single malt whiskies in the sale found buyers, with the sale total for the group achieving 154% over its pre-auction low estimate.

The Karuizawa Samurai Collection and Cabinet, which comprises 10 bottles of the rare silent distillery whiskies, sold for HK$625,000. Meanwhile, a bottle of The Macallan Millenium Decanter 50YO 1949 realised HK$437,500. The auction debut of Juyondai premium sake was 100% sold, with the sale total realising 168% over its pre-sale low estimate.

Michelle Chan, head of wine at Christie’s Asia Pacific, commented: “As Christie’s first live wine auction of the year, we are delighted to witness a very strong market response, with the sale totals achieved representing an increase of 50% from last season.

“We are also excited to see superb results fetched in the selection of Burgundy and Bordeaux vintages, Scottish and Japanese single malt whiskies, and the white-glove debut sale of Juyondai premium sake at Christie’s.

“Vigourous bidding in room and worldwide via our online platform fully reflected the global appeal of our thoughtfully curated sale which presented the most coveted wines in the market. We look forward to seeing this momentum continue in the upcoming online-only sale (16 – 31 July) and live auctions in Geneva (21 July) and London (28 July).”
